It was a wild night of baseball on Saturday. Let's get into it.
The Giants defeated the Nationals 2-1 in 18 innings. It was the longest game in the postseason since 2005. The scoring started in the bottom of the 4th when Anthony Rendon hit a single, scoring Asdurbal Cabrera. It would remain that way until the 9th when Pablo Sandaval hit a double, scoring Joe Panik. It would remain that way for 9 grueling innings until Brandon Belt hit a solo shot in the top of the 18th. Yusmerio Pettit got the win for the Giants while Tyler Roark took the loss for the Nats. Hunter Strickland picked up the save. With the win, the Giants now have a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.
The next game was also exciting, as the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals 3-2. The Dodgers drew first blood in the bottom of the 3rd when Dee Gordon hit an RBI groundout, scoring AJ Elis. They added another run that inning when Adrian Gonzalez hit a single, scoring Zach Grenkie. It would remain that way until the top of the 8th when Matt Carpenter hit a 2 run homer, tying the game at 2. It would not remain that way for long, however, as Matt Kemp hit a solo shot in the bottom half of the inning. The Dodgers would hang on to even the series at 1. Brandon League got the win for the Dodgers while Pat Neshek took the loss for the Cards.
Today, the Kansas City Royals take on the LA Angles with a chance to sweep the series. James Shields(14-8, 3.21 ERA) will take the hill for KC, and he will be opposed by CJ Wilson(13-10, 4.51 ERA). I think that Shields will be too much for the Angles and he will pitch the Royals to the ALCS.
